Searching for a Translator, but they’re doubtful of the items you will find? Did you know how to pick the proper service provider? Are typical translators the identical? What about interpreters, could they be not translators also? What things in case you ask your potential translator to ascertain if he/she is competent enough?
Here’s where you should begin:
Ask your potential vendor (PSP, to any extent further) to offer evidence of competence inside the following:
– Both languages: for technical texts (people that have abundant terminology), the PSP must have his source language certified to a European C1 level (or equivalent) as minimum, and the target language certified to level C2 or perhaps an educated native speaker from the language (see: Wikipedia link below)
– Translation competence: for technical texts, the PSP should have at the very least 5 years practical experience translating texts within the technical field as being a freelancer, 3 years if done under supervision of a more skillful translator, and double if the PSP has rarely translated a text in the technical field.
– Field competence: Ideally, the translator should hold a college degree in the field in connection with the translation topic (i.e. in Fisheries there is only 1 or 2 translators who hold degrees of this type or related field for a few language pairs in the whole world. Some language pairs have none).
Alternatively, the PSP should:
– hold diplomas or crash courses from the topic, or
– worked as a chef within the specialty for many years (not translation related jobs), or
– knowledge translating texts from the specialty under supervision by way of a specialist (for upwards of 3-5 years), or over 5-10 years if occasionally/rarely translating texts from the specialty, or over 2 decades if never has translated under supervision of the more skillful translator.
– Education: Always select a translator with advanced schooling. The feeling good universities deliver their students can be an advantage in translation: creative and independent thought, intellectual challenges, initiative and leadership, critical thinking and questioning, innovation, not to mention, good universities include the supply of innovative knowledge.
– Cultural awareness: immersion within a culture/community/country related to a language is essential in translation, as much for understanding nuances from the source as and in having the ability to transfer those nuances in to the target. Many of the essential in texts where the reader would like to identify himself with all the writing, such as many marketing and advertising texts.
